Thailand Food

Thailand food is internationally famous. Originally, Thai cooking reflected the characteristics of a waterborne lifestyle. Aquatic animals, plants and herbs were major ingredients. Large chunks of meat were eschewed. Subsequent influences introduced the use of sizeable chunks to Thai cooking.

Thais were very adept at 'Siamese-ising' foreign cooking methods, and substituting ingredients. The ghee used in Indian cooking was replaced by coconut oil, and coconut milk substituted for other daily products. Overpowering pure spices were toned down and enhanced by fresh herbs such as lemon grass and galanga.

A proper Thai meal should consist of a soup, a curry dish with condiments, a dip with accompanying fish and vegetables. A spiced salad may replace the curry dish. The soup can also be spicy, but non-spiced items should replace the curry. There must be a harmony of tastes and textures within individual dishes and the entire meal.

Thai food is eaten with a fork and spoon. Even single dish meals such as fried rice with pork, or steamed rice topped with roasted duck, are served in bite-sized slices or chunks obviating the need for a knife. The spoon is used to convey food to the mouth.

Thailand Restaurants
Neil's Tavern
The steak house, named after the first man on the moon Neil Armstrong, has been one of the most famous restaurants in Ruam Rudee, especially among expatriates for over three decades. The restaurant is ideal for business dining and family for weekend.

This cozy French bistro is less than 100 meters from the front of Soi Ruam Rudee, off Pleonchit BTS station. Chef Marc Fromentin presents a variety of innovative French cuisine with the specialty of steaks, New Zealand imported beef. Other recommended dishes include Les Rillettes Sarthoises (Potted pork Pate served with toast), Filet de Bocuf aux champignons (beef filet in mushroom sauce) and Feuillette de Saint Jacques aux Epinards or Scallops and spinach in pastry shell.

Cabbages and Condoms

It seems to be just another eatery selling an unusual concept to bring customers to the table, but Cabbages and Condoms is much more than that. It is located in Sukhumvit Soi.

Anna's Cafe
Anna's Group of Restaurants opened its first Anna's Cafe in Bangkok four years ago. With its innovative Thai cuisine, fast and friendly service, and stylish decor, Anna's Cafe is considered one of the most famous restaurants in Bangkok.

Lumba Lumba Seafood

Lumba Lumba, which means "Dolphin" in Balinese language, is the only Balinese-style seafood restaurant in Bangkok. It is located in the upscale gourmet street of Soi Langsuan in Chitlom area.
