The Elephant Village In Pattaya was opened in 1973 as a sanctuary for former working elephants. These elephants, through reasons of injury or ill health, could no longer be used as a part of the backbone of heavy work in the jungles of Thailand.

In addition, because of their diminishing natural habitat, it was no longer possible to return them to the wild.  The Elephant Village thus provided and still provides these magnificent creatures with a safe haven, where they may live out their lives with dignity and freedom from fear.

The thrilling event at the Elephant Village includes spectacular demonstrations of elephant capture; the daily life of elephants and their masters; elephants being trained, worked and fed; elephant riding and an ancient war, elephant dressed for your photograph.

The Elephant Village shows elephant displaying forestry skills, playing football, re-enactment of war elephant parade and also demonstrates how wild elephants were captured. It is a well-known place for lovers of elephants and nature! Elephant village is the first of its kind and one of the very few places where elephants are kept in their natural environment.
